Crash Test Barriers — Why Quality and Experience are Essential

Crash Tests assess the safety and structural integrity of cars.  In the UK and Europe, tests are carried out by Euro NCAP. In the US they are carried out by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Australia has ANCAP, India’s New Car Assessment Programme is known as Bharat NCAP or BNCAP.   Others include Korea (KNCAP), Japan (JNCAP), Latin America and the Caribbean (LatinNCAP), China (CNCAP), and South East Asia (ASEAN NCAP).

Each organisation publishes a safety rating on each vehicle they test; they are shared publicly to enable consumers to make informed buying choices.  Multiple types of tests are carried out on each vehicle to see how they respond to different crash situations. All equipment used in these tests must be of the highest quality.  The test results build up an accurate picture of how safe a particular car is and how likely it is that a driver or passenger would sustain a serious injury — or even die— in the event of an accident.

Cellbond has more than 35 years of experience in developing and manufacturing certified crash test barriers for vehicle passive safety regulations.  What’s more, we use our own Corex Honeycomb aluminium core to build them.  The core is produced in our UK factory, adjacent to our barrier manufacturing site. This gives us full control over the quality of each element of our crash test barrier production.

Corex Honeycomb’s aluminium core is a highly effective form of energy absorption. Lightweight and strong, it has been utilised in a diverse range of industries including Automotive, Nuclear, Energy, Oil, Construction, Film, Fine Art, Print, and Aerospace.

Each one of Cellbond’s certified deformable aluminium crash test barriers is made with quality and reliability in mind. A huge amount of care goes into each barrier; they are individually built by hand, engraved and painted before drying off, ready for our stringent final quality checks. Only after we are satisfied that your crash test barrier has been made to our exacting standards, do we produce an individual Certificate of Conformity to ship with the barrier. Our meticulous approach to production ensures that we provide our customers with high-quality products they can trust.

Cellbond has a long and very close collaboration with ARUP and Altair, our industry partners for FE Models of our complete range of barriers in LS DYNA (ARUP), and RADIOSS (Altair).

Since 1988, Cellbond has excelled in achieving the highest levels of repeatability, reliability, and quality for deformable crash test barriers globally.  We are proud of our heritage and take great pleasure in passing on our knowledge and expertise to new generations of production engineers; this future-proofs our business, supports innovation, and provides our customers with the assurance of consistency and quality of products.

We are forward-thinking and seek out opportunities for innovation through engineering; this attitude has enabled us to build exceptional partnerships and introduce new products that help to improve passive safety and the protection of people and their environment.
