Cellbond energy absorbers are developed for many applications including side impact protection, pedestrian friendly bumpers and bonnets, and occupant protecting applications such as roof linings, pillar or knee applications.
Existing energy absorbers include (but are not limited to) foams, plastic ribs, thin wall crush tubes and honeycomb, which is an excellent but not always cost effective solution. To offer an alternative Cellbond have developed and patented the unique PressLoad technology. We customise our range of energy absorbers to produce specific solutions for our customers’ individual requirements. We also supply engineering and manufacturing services including injection moulding and tool making. The HyImpact energy absorber is designed as a first-class energy absorbing structure consisting of aluminium honeycomb covered in PU foam. It was jointly developed between Cellbond and BMW.
HyLoad energy absorber's core is made of aluminium honeycomb. It enables the maximum amount of energy to be absorbed in a minimum volume.
The PressLoad concept offers a lightweight, low-cost method of energy absorption for the car, rail and architectural industry. Its innovative structure delivers excellent energy absorption characteristics. PressLoad uses a specially designed geometry, which looks similar to an egg box structure. The arrangement of conical shells provides strength and the ability to deform in a predictable way. Meanwhile, the flat tops of the cones and the ability to mould flaps (as can be seen in the picture below) allows for different options - from easy fixing to headliners or other interior parts. PressLoad can also be designed in an exact shape or crush strength. Its design versatility enables it to be suitable for various applications.
