Cellbond have been applying their expertise in barrier development by supporting the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) on their important Side Impact Research Update project; redesigning the side impact barrier to reflect the increasing prevalence of SUVs and Pickups in use on roads. The barrier is now available to interested parties.
The Insurance Institute recently announced the completion of the research phase of testing for developing the upgrade to the IIHS side impact test. The new side impact test 2.0 includes a configuration similar to the current side impact test, with an increased test speed, new aluminium honeycomb barrier face and an increase in cart mass to better match the midsize SUV mass. Development at IIHS is ongoing ahead of the planned introduction in 2022.
